Open the studio

The assistant on your live site

If you can edit a site, you can ask the assistant for changes while you look at the live site itself: open it from the studio, press Assistant, and say what you want changed on the page in front of you.

Turn it on

  1. In the studio, open your site and press Open live site (or Open live on a page). This shows the Assistant button on that site in this browser.
  2. Press Assistant at the bottom right. The first time, press Connect: the studio opens, asks “Use the assistant on …?”, and after Continue brings you straight back.
  3. Ask for a change, such as “Change this week’s news to …”, “Fix the typo in the second paragraph” or “Add a photo to this page”. The assistant already knows which page you’re on and how your site’s pages fit together, and asks when it isn’t sure what you mean.

When a change is saved the page reloads so you see it at once. The panel stays open, with the same conversation, as you move between pages.

Who sees it

Only people with the content editor role or higher on that site. Visitors never see the button, and your pages load exactly as fast as before: nothing extra is downloaded for them.

The assistant can do on your live site what your role allows on that site, and nothing else: content editors can change page text and content entries (posts, events, sermons) and add photos; editors and admins can do the same as in the studio for that site. Account-wide things (your sites list, billing, credits) stay in the studio. Just as in the studio, it asks you before publishing or deleting anything.

Signing in and staying safe

  • The panel comes from the studio, so your site never sees your password or your studio session.
  • Connecting works on custom domains and in browsers that block third-party cookies (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). It lasts 8 hours on that site only; after that, or if your browser clears site data, press Connect again.
  • The studio only offers Continue when you pressed Connect on your own site, so a link someone sends you can’t connect anything.
  • If someone’s role is removed, their assistant stops working on the next request.

Credits

The same as the studio assistant: replies are paid from the site’s assistant fund when it has one, otherwise from your own credits, and the panel shows what the conversation has cost so far. See Billing & credits.

Sites with their own Content-Security-Policy

If your templates add their own Content-Security-Policy, allow the button and its panel: script-src 'self' 'sha256-xtPJu/tgrvLOksCTKO+Q3UHvmAqxP1R7WW600PPIE5o=' (the small inline script the platform adds to each page) and frame-src https://studio.shermanwebdesign.com. Sites without their own policy need nothing.
